WSU Health Professions Student Center Dr. Janis Mercker, MD

I was raised in Bellingham, Washington. Following family tradition, I graduated from WSU in 1970 with a BS in Zoology. I spent time studying and working in Germany before graduate studies in Physiology at Yale . Changing course and coasts, I started Medical School at the University of Washington followed by residency in Radiology at Virginia Mason Medical Center and a Fellowship in Pediatric Radiology at Children’s Hospital where I stayed on staff for 10 years. In 1990 I changed my focus to Breast Imaging and worked in that field in the Seattle area until I retired
in 2017 from the Seattle Breast Center at University of Washington/Northwest Hospital. Spending time on advisory boards for the Honors Program (now College) and College of Sciences and being a member of the WSU Foundation Board of Trustees have kept me in touch with WSU. I am
proud to support the Health Professions Student Center. I have 3 grown children and 5 grandchildren. My hobbies include travel, studying languages, reading, choral singing, kayaking and walking.
