WSU Health Professions Student Center Dr. John Olerud, MD

Dr. John Olerud has served as the Chair of the HPSC Advisory Board for the last three years, stepping down in December 2020.  He is recently retired as a medical dermatologist who specialized in complex skin disorders and cutaneous lymphomas.  Dr. Olerud began his training with a B.S. in zoology from Washington State University in 1965.  While at WSU, Dr. Olerud played college baseball for the Cougs and subsequently named to the NCAA-All American team. He continued his career as a professional baseball player in the minor leagues while attending the University Of Washington School Of Medicine and obtained his M.D. in 1971. Dr. Olerud completed his internal medicine residency training at the University of Washington in 1975 and his dermatology residency at the University of Washington in 1977.

Dr. Olerud had a distinguished medical career as a physician, researcher and instructor. As a prolific researcher, he has published nearly 100-refereed articles. Dr. Olerud has served his profession in a number of prominent roles: the UW George F. Odland professor of medicine, head of the Division of Dermatology, president of the Association of Professors of Dermatology and principle investigator for numerous federal grants including a training grant for physicians and scientists in skin biology.
